free space

watercolor

“Hospitality
means primarily the creation of free space
where the stranger can enter
and become a friend instead of an enemy.
Hospitality is not to change people,
but to offer them space where change can take place.
It is not to bring men and women over to our side,
but to offer freedom
not disturbed by dividing lines.”

  12. I love this piece - not only do you paint wonderful animals and people but you do architecture too!! It reminds me of buildings in Greece or a little town called Sidi Bou Said in Tunisia - all little white sugar cubed buildings!

Wonderful watercolour; with these reduced colours, you have created a lot of dimension.

  28. You are a very talented artist - you amaze me with your versatility. I also love Henri Nouwen-that is a wonderful quote for someone like me who for many years thought hospitality had to do with my home being a perfect place to visit - not at all - it's about the people who come and the relationships that follow. 29. Seeb sprang to mind when I saw your lovely painting. Seeb is in the Middle East, in Oman. When I tell you I haven't been to, or given much thought to, Seeb for about 50 years, you can imagine how surprised I was when your painting jogged my memory!
