crip·ple adj. \ˈkri-pəl\
being flawed, imperfect or lame.
Old English: crēopan: to creep.
An accurate description of this pencil's creative journey : creeping along, flawed, imperfect and lame... yet gaining joy, insight and sanity from the mere act of creeping.
Neesie, it is just that I have drawn a gazillion of them in the last 3 years. It is my "when-all-else-fails" subject to turn and return to. I actually tried to sketch several other things for APR this week... and all failed. So elephants it had to be:-)
I love your elephants minn, I used to collect them. When I was a little girl I had hundreds of elephants, statues, carvings, stuffed, pictures, wall hangings etc. Every time there was any celebration someone would buy me an elephant, lol. Yours look awesome, you capture them so well. Thanks for joining this week! Best, Jenn
great sketch of elephants... you capture structure so perfectly and it helps me understand why your paintings are so great.... do you sketch under your watercolours, or do you apply paint straight away????
Tracey, I definitely sketch before I paint. Wish I could be more "free" in my approach... but not there yet. That said, I am actually a little insecure about my sketching and often set out to cover the insecurity with paint:-) But lately, studying your sketches and those of others has helped me lay the lines bare:-)
Nice one, Minn! Do you use pencil first or straight in with the pen? I usually start with pencil ... but get bored with it, and live with the risks ink brings :0)
Your elephants are beautiful, captured in all their majesty. I am too afraid to try animals or people, so people who can draw them are fabulous artists in my eyes. I always have to pencil in a pic before I'm game to try and ink, do you do that too? Sorry I'm so late replying, having another one of those weeks. Von.
I like the elephants and the quote. Nice! :)
ReplyDeleteLoving your beautiful elephants, x
