for someone to pause long enough...

 watercolor and acrylic ink

"I began to have a strong sense,
among all these hurrying people...
of being utterly alone, aloof.
It was as though I were wearing a magic cloak of invisibility,
for it seemed
that I could see all these passing people
without their seeing me.
They went by
as though I were not there at all...
and yet I felt that I was well worth knowing;
if only someone would stop long enough to know me!"

  1. Feeling invisible is like abolishing one's very existence... It's strong, it's wrong. It's all there, in your painting.
Very strong painting, very powerful indeed!!! My compliments Minnemie.
    Warm regards.

  8. Very powerful. As a society we are so apt to place the cloak of invisibility over the things and the people that we don't want to see. Your painting speaks a 1000 words and the text is very thought provoking. Beautiful. Happy PPF

  9. This is so beautifully done. Such feeling/emotion it emotes.
The quote reminds me of how I feel when I draw in public. I like that feeling, but here, with your beautiful painting it is sad.

  14. Stunning! Both.

Some people yearn to be seen and recognized. Some prefer to be invisible. Some are miserable alone and some are happily content. You have captured this person's heart.

  15. Powerful piece. Happy PPF from someone who actually likes to be invisible most of the time.

  16. There is considerable debate concerning whether it is one, or ten thousand words, that a picture is better than. Your picture makes the debate void for your picture is worth considerably more than such meagre numbers.

  17. A beautiful and very powerful piece! It saddens me that the majority of people pass by those less fortunate without so much as a glance. It doesn't cost anything to offer a smile and acknowledge that person's existence. This world seems like such a busy place to what it used to be.

  18. Too cool! The way she's crouched and the folds of fabric, with her hands performing some quiet ritual just below her chin. I see her as an older women, very wise and with many secrets. That was before I read the poem. So now I see a woman with two distinct sides, and no small difficulty for others to determine which side is on display.

So much story in there! Beautiful painting, too!

  26. Hello Minnemie:) Your painting and words are very emotional together but so true! Love your painting. The look in the eyes and the expression on the face give it an extra feeling. Great job!

  28. Minn, you rock. What else is there to say? I'm totally with you on the burnt sienna, I wish I loved using blues more, I can see in your work, trace's work and vonny's work that they so stand out beautifully, but just as you say you don't tend to use the granny apple green in painting, I don't tend to use blues. Wish I did more. I'll work on it, lol.
    Hugs my eminently talented friend,
    Best,
    Jenn

  32. Very strong and confronting painting. Great technique too. You might like to share your orange-ish work on Mandarin Orange Monday (photos of art or photo art). Would love to see your work there.

  33. The impact of your pic is very strong and draws out the sense of alienation felt by the huddled person. I feel like I was standing there and she looked at me reproachfully! When will the passers by see her?

  34. She stays still and becomes invisible because everyone else is hurrying. She learns so much more than those that hurry. And, yet, if just one person stops, she will not be invisible. . . . Therefore, I don't see any negativity in this painting. Blessings, Janet PPF
