  1. You work is always stunning...this is no different and the perfect quote too.... however I hope part of that puzzle is solved!

    1. Ha, that depends on the day;-) I find child-rearing to be a constant school of learning and developing of the "self"... I suspect I change and grow as much as (if not more than) my children as we walk this journey of life together:-)

  2. You have such an intense look in the painting. Was this done with a mirror?

    Happy birthday to PPF.

    1. Hi Jean! No, I worked from a photo. The exercise in this class was to challenge our eight brains a bit:-) We covered up the entire photo except for the block we were working on (both on the painting and on the reference picture - both had grid on), and to even work randomly on blocks rather than sequencially. We were to use at least two but no more than 3 different techniques (pointillism, wet-into-wet, salt, etc) throughout the painting. In the end, it was amazing to see how the different lines and shapes connected to form a whole!

    2. I meant *RIGHT* brains... wish I had eight brains;-) As for the intense look: painting a self-portrait was intimidating enough, so I refused to attempt one with my teeth showing:-) I could not find such a picture and had to take a selfie, which I did do in the mirror. That in itself a challenging process:-)

    3. I kind of wondered what an eight brain was.

Looking again, the block method explains the look of this painting.

Teeth are like ears, generally best if vaguely suggested, in my opinion.

  3. Gorgeous! I love the tile effect. It gives beautiful you an amazing dimension. And that curly beautiful hair - I hope I get to meet you in person some time - but until then thankfully and gratefully we have this - xo, M.

  8. You just blow me away - so much character and feeling in your portrait. I know you have to work around the great demands of raising your children - all I can say is you are so talented!!!

  9. So interresting to see the different techniques showing in the squares. The squares also add to an interresting and great result. Seems fun to cover-up and paint one piece at a time! :)

  10. Aaah, what a great question! I hate to say it, but I think I have reached that point of middle age where I am questioning all kinds of things, most particularly my casually held beliefs that I don't think of very often. And also, how can I be a nicer person, which seems to me these days to be the most important thing.

Beautiful painting, meanwhile! Those facial features are fantastic. :D
(p.s. please delete if I posted this twice!)

  12. Fantastic self portrait Minnemie, it's lovely to see you
I'm really intrigued by the technique you've used here with the squares. Your eyes are incredible... the window to the soul.
I've evolved so much over time and I think that's only right... I don't know who I am because I keep changing... for the better hopefully as I learn.
A beautiful watercolour and I'm so happy you reposted it because I would have missed it if you hadn't.
    Enjoy your weekend ;D
