finding beauty

watercolor

“And I learned what is obvious to a child...
That each day should be spent finding beauty
 in flowers
          and poetry
                                   and talking to animals.
That a day spent
             with dreaming
                 and sunsets
                                               and refreshing breezes
cannot be bettered. ”

  5. Lovely painting and quote. I just returned from a few days at the beach with my son, and have always marveled at how he can entertain himself there for hours without a single toy. Nature's playground is the best.

  10. Beautiful - each week you inspire me with your amazing ability to create a stunning art work that perfectly capture the emotion of the quote or phrase you use. I love everything about this and the quote is so completely true - we need to remember to find wonder in the world the way a child does without thinking!

  11. Love the way you have left areas of negative space, with light against dark this painting is so good.

  13. Love the painting, and the quote! As a mother to a small boy, both the painting and the quote are close to my heart. :-) Did you use a reference photo?

    1. Yes Hwee, I did. It was an old black and white from several years ago when where we were at the beach with friends on a freezing cold day in April! The children were bundled up but enjoyed the adventure as much as always... it is an (almost) all-weather magical place!

  23. Amazing painting! It seems to me, dear minnemie, that the child inside you is still there and happy, painting pictures, finding light. That's a blessing!
    Warm regards.

  26. Yes it is an amazing painting Minnemie.I like the black and white of it not really black and white. There looks to be some amazing passages of subtle color among the stark lights and darks.

  28. Wow, this is so cool! How you used so few colors to illustrate so much storytelling! The little figures are so cute, particularly the girl who seems anxious to get down to the water's edge. It could be a very magical place, with so many narrative possibilities.

  36. This piece is absolutely stunning. I love how so much of it is just shadows, and yet it is still a complete picture...

The words are lovely, and so true, at least for me. We lose so much of what is really important about life when we stop being children. Art has brought some of that magic back into my life!
